From the recording The Ballad Of Harry Hill
Peter Coad OAM - The Ballad Of Harry Hill. (Peter Coad).
Peter Coad started his career in music on the Bob Fricker Show in 1961 in Pt Augusta SA. From then on Peter has continued with his music, writing his own songs about Australian people, places and characters with much success. With a huge catalogue of recordings behind him, Peter's latest single is a gentle story ballad about one of the early pioneers from the Flinders Ranges area of Wilpena Pound, Harry Hill. Harry Hill built a small stone homestead in the centre of Wilpena Pound which still stands today. Peter was born in Hawker SA, and Wilpena Pound is just 'up the road' a bit, so Peter knows and understands the country, its people, and pioneers in the like of Harry Hill.

Lyrics
The Ballad of Harry Hill – Peter Coad 2026
A horse shoe of mountains, Wilpena Pound
Way back in time harry hill’s ground
So many stories like Harry Hills
Have never been told and never will
He saw the future, he built a road
Just up above where the flood waters go,
A road that would carry his produce and give….
Access to the land where Harry would live
A horse shoe of mountains, Wilpena Pound
Wonderful crops grew on that ground
Check out this story when travelling around
The history of Harry and Wilpena Pound
He built a cottage he built in stone
Where sweet water ran, Harry called home
Still here today through good times and tears….
We’re going back over 100 years
I’m looking out standing here now
I can see Harry working his plow
The smoke from the chimney the dinner time bell
Its history ……….in this story I tell,
A battler, a bushman, a teamster would seem
A farmer with vision working his dream
He built a life with hard working hands….
All gone today but the cottage still stands
A horse shoe of mountains, Wilpena Pound
Wonderful crops grew on that ground
Check out this story when travelling around
The history of Harry and Wilpena Pound
Check out this story when travelling around…………..
The history of Harry and Wilpena Pound
The history of Harry and Wilpena Pound
